Guided Tours around Buffalo, Wyoming

Bighorn Mountain Tour

All day (8:30 am – 4 pm)
Tour starts/ends at the Jim Gatchell Museum, 100 Fort Street, Buffalo

  • Take Highway 16 to Hazelton Road.   Learn about the history of Hazelton and the area.

  • Later, talk to a “Sheepherder” or “real Cowboys” on the mountain!  Lunch can be provided.

  • Exit the Bighorns on Rome Hill Road or the "Slip" Road into beautiful Red Wall Country.

Tour includes:

  • Tour and explanations from an expert

  • Transportation/Tress Pass Fees

  • Snacks and refreshments

  • Free pass to the Jim Gatchell Museum in downtown Buffalo for the next 4 days
    (Lunch can be included for an additional fee of $ 10.00 per person)

Tour price:  $300.00 for two people; $35.00 for each additional person


Hole in the Wall Tour
Full day (8 am – 4 pm)
Tour starts/ends at the Jim Gatchell Museum, 100 Fort Street, Buffalo

  • After breakfast drive down South and visit the famous “Hole in the Wall Country"

  • Enjoy the scenic drive and see the breathtaking so called Red Wall” – it is about 70 miles long!

  • For fit hikers: hike down to the bottom of the canyon where “Outlaw Cave” is located and fishing is spectacular down at the Canyon. A tasty lunch will be provided during the tour.

Tour includes:

  • Tour and explanations from an expert

  • Transportation/Tress Pass Fees

  • Snacks and refreshments

  • A full Lunch including fruit, desert

Tour price:  $300.00 for 2 people; $35.00 for each additional person


Cattle War & Bozeman Trail Tour
Full day (8am – 4pm)
Tour starts/ends at the Jim Gatchell Museum, 100 Fort Street, Buffalo

  • After breakfast drive on Highway 196 and your 1st stop will be the “Tisdale murder site”. A local historian will explain the history there. Stop at the historic TA Ranch and find out all about the “Johnson County Cattle War” and visit the old but beautifully remodeled Ranch buildings. Later on take a closer look at “Orly Ranger Johns” murder site and drive further on to Kaycee. Find the Cabin Site of Champion and Rae.  Enjoy lunch  and drive back on Sussex Road and pause at the “Portuguese House”, see “Fort Reno” and drive back on Trabing Road back to Buffalo.

  • Tour and explanations with local historians and guest speakers

  • Transportation/Tress Pass Fees

  • Snacks and refreshments

Tour price:  $300.00 for 2 people; $35.00 for each additional person; $10.00 per person for Lunch


Fort Phil Kearny
˝ day (8 am – 1 pm)
Tour starts/ends at the Jim Gatchell Museum, 100 Fort Street, Buffalo

  • After Breakfast drive about 13 miles North on Highway 90 and visit “Fort Phil Kearny”, which burned down in 1868 and find out all about the Fort and the famous “Wagon Box Fight”. Walk up to the “Fedderman Ridge” and the Battle will be interpreted from a local historian.

Tour includes:

  • Free pass for the Jim Gatchell Museum in Buffalo

  • Tour and explanations with local historians and guest speakers

  • Transportation/Tress Pass Fees

  • Snacks and refreshments

Tour price:  $190.00 for 2 people; $35.00 for each additional person

  • Lunches can be provided for all tours for an additional cost of $ 10.00 per person.

  • Clear Creek Bed & Breakfast built in 1883, a beautiful and very well managed place to stay, where you will enjoy homemade bread for breakfast!  $65.00 - $85.00

  • Mansion House Inn located on Main Street, Buffalo; a Virginian Style Bed & Breakfast.   Every room looks different.  $40.00 - $70.00

  • Mountain View Motel consists of Western decor log cabins located at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains and very convenient to downtown Buffalo.  $49.00 - $72.00

  • Occidental Hotel located on Main Street in Buffalo.  A living history hotel, beautifully restored rooms with original furniture.  Every room has different furniture.  Continental breakfast included.  $100.00 - $185.00
