Guided Horseback Riding trip in the Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming
<<Pack Trip, 5 days>>

     The Flat Iron camp, the base camp of your trip, is the only camp nestled on the banks of Flat Iron Lake, in the shadow of Cloud Peak, the center piece of Wyoming's Cloud Peak Wilderness.   Ride gentle mountain horses on twelve miles of easy trails past clear blue lakes and tall, snow-covered granite peaks. Our clean comfortable camp consists of wall tents with cots and mattresses, cook tent, dining tent, bathroom tent and even a hot shower tent!

     Excellent meals are prepared by the camp cook, from Steak to BBQ ribs and of course, fresh Mountain Trout.

Day 1

  • Overnight in Buffalo in one of the beautiful B& B’s, Motels or Hotels
  • Drive along the scenic Highway 16 and enjoy the wonderful view of the Bighorn Mountains
  • Start your trip at Hunter Corrals at about 12 miles East of town
  • Meet with the outfitter at “Hunter Corrals"
  • After a short introduction about the trip and your horse, get ready for the ride
  • Ride all afternoon for about 13 miles to Frying Pan Lake"
  • Opportunity to fly-fish at one of the surrounding lakes

Day 2

  • Flat Iron Camp – Cloud Peak Reservoir
  • After Breakfast saddle up and get ready for your ride.  Enjoy the beautiful view of the Bighorn Mountains where the top of the mountains are still covered with snow.
  • Lunch and refreshments will be provided whenever you get hungry!
  • Opportunity to fly-fish at the Reservoir
  • Ride back to camp and relax at the campfire and a home cooked dinner

Day 3

  • Flat Iron Camp – Mead Lake
  • After a hearty breakfast saddle up the horses and get ready to leave camp to ride up to Mead Lake
  • View the wildlife such as moose, deer or elk on your way
  • Opportunity to fly-fish or ride back to camp and have a tasty supper

Day 4

  • Flat Iron Camp – South Piney Lakes
  • After breakfast saddle up the horses and get ready to ride
  • View more wildlife and admire moose, deer or elk from a short distance
  • Take a break for lunch and relax at one of the Lakes
  • Opportunity to fly-fish some more
  • After lunch head back to camp
  • Unsaddle your horse and have a shower
  • Dinner will be served and later that evening
  • Enjoy the campfire and a good beer!

Day 5

  • Flat Iron Camp – Hunter Corrals
  • After breakfast saddle up one last time and head out
  • Enjoy the beautiful trail
  • Take a break for lunch at the lake and sit back and relax
  • Opportunity to fly-fish
  • After lunch head back to Hunter Corrals
  • End of the trip, but time for a cool drink or a good dinner at one of the Lodges up in the Mountains, where the friendly staff will serve you a warm meal.
  • Overnight in Buffalo in one of the B& B, Motels or Hotels

Important information:

  • Everything can be re-arranged and customized for YOUR needs!

  • Fishing as well as camping equipment can be rented for an additional fee at the store

  • Maps can be purchased at the store and up to date information about the Bighorn Mountains can be obtained there

  • Tour includes:  4 nights at the camp, all meals, Daily guiding, horses and tack

  • Tour Package Price:  $ 1,090.00 per person

Accommodations Options:

  • Clear Creek Bed & Breakfast built in 1883, a beautiful and very well managed place to stay, where you will enjoy down home comfort and home made bread & muffins for breakfast.

  • Mansion House Inn located on Main Street Buffalo a Virginian Style Bed & Breakfast.
    Every room looks different.

  • Mountain View Motel consists of Western décor log Cabins located at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains and very convenient to downtown Buffalo.

Optional tours - Before or after the pack trip:

  • Have a picnic along the beautiful Lake “Tie Hack” or

  • take your fishing rod and go fishing at one of the trout streams or lakes
    Rent a bike
    and discover Buffalo’s Clear Creek Trail or

  • Go hiking in the Bighorn Mountains or

  • Relax at the local swimming pool in downtown Buffalo or

  • Play golf either the Buffalo Golf Course in Buffalo or the Powder Horn Golf Club in Bighorn or

  • enjoy the local rodeos in Buffalo, Kaycee, or Sheridan (only June, July and August – Rodeo schedule available)
